The authors address the diagnostic & treatment problem of distinquishing schizoaffective disorder from schizophrenia or depression with mood-congruent psychosis. Their experience with 6 patients meeting RDC for schizoaffective disorder, depressive type, with no history of mania, leads them to conclude that until a large scale study is undertaken, clinicians may have to use a trial-&-error approach to these patients. ECT, neuroleptics & tricyclic antidepressants are discussed. (NBB)
