This article challenges the validity of data suggesting a higher incidence of suicide by physicians. Three related beliefs are disputed, & questions are raised about the failure of the literature to discuss important aspects of attitudes toward & effects of suicide. It is concluded that the professional social network that interacts with the suicidal physician needs to be restructured.
