The author states that discovering the social meanings of suicide in a community may be an important preliminary step in the process of community networking in isolated or rural communities, by indicating directions for community education efforts. Differing attitudes among those coming into contact with suicidal individuals in a Cajun parish in S.W. Louisiana are illustrated.
