This study describes the development of a suicide prevention program in Hungary, comprising telephone services, a community centre, & a crisis centre attached to a psychiatric hospital. After a period of 6 years, an evaluation indicated fewer attempted suicides but no change in numbers of completed suicides. The authors conclude that the work of volunteers is essential to the primary stage of prevention & fits in well with the medical system.(NBB)
