The events preceding the suicide of a 46 year old inmate are detailed. His record indicated high suicide risk, requiring transfer to hospital or close observation, yet neither precaution was taken. The inmate was also refused antidepressant medication prior to the arrival of his medical record, & was said to be in stable & satisfactory condition by medical staff in spite of refusing to eat. It is speculated that overcrowding in the jail was a contributing factor in this suicide. (RM)
