Host agent & environmental factors that determine the occurence & distribution of violent deaths in Bombay, India are reviewed through an analysis of the data on deaths registered from 1942-1961. Mortality patterns are seen to be different from those in developed countries. Various risks by cause are measured & may be considered as reliable estimates for urban India.
