Many patients, before & after discharge, commit suicide. Nurses are in a position to detect suicide-prone individuals, but often do not because of their own feelings of fear & repugnance. These feelings are addressed, & guidelines are given for assessing, caring for, & advising the suicide-prone. A list of 20 questions (with the answers), to use in assessing one’s own knowledge about suicide is included. (RM)
