Discusses one aspect of suicide-that of its being a symptom resulting from intrapsychic conflict. Recent elaborations of the psychoanalytic structural theory & the conceptualizations of narcissism & aggression are used to establish the existence of a dynamic reciprocal relationship, in a contiuum, of fantasy, masturbation & suicide. It is suggested that masturbation & suicide are autoerotic & autoagressive acts that represent the translation into action of unconscious oedipal fantasy.
