A child’s response and vulnerability to stress depends upon the child’s stage of development, perception of the stress &support systems. Understanding how children cope with bereavement, adoption, illness & self destructive ideas allows the health professional to help the child manage destructive stress. Approaches include effective communication,behavior management,anticipatory planning,art,play & others.The concept of immunizing children against dangerous effects of stress is discussed.
