Physical limitations due to age are a major factor in traffic accidents involving older pedestrians. Detailed studies of injuries & fatalities of this age group indicate that most accidents occur at intersections with vehicles travelling at low speeds, nighttime & dusk are particularly hazardous, males are more vulnerable & there is little evidence of alcohol or suicide being contributing factors. Suggestions are made for improving the safety of older pedestrians.
