The conclusion that there is connection between socialism & suicide has been denied by the Danes. They are supported by Herbert Hendin, an American psychiatrist, who argues that the high rate of suicide is due to child-rearing practices which cause Danish children to turn hostility inwards, to have excessive guilt feelings & to be more dependent on their parents. Thus, later in life, when personal relationships break down, depression & suicide can result. (0 refs.) (MM)
