It has been found in Edinburgh that the incidence of completed suicide is very common in areas of the city where there is a high degree of social disorganization, such as overcrowding & juvenile delinquency. A study in Buffalo failed to replicate this finding. It appears possible that the types of people who kill themselves (as determined by ecological studies) may differ considerable in Edinburgh & in Buffalo.
