Describes a program which used group treatment for crisis intervention & long-term therapy with 105 attempters. The low reattempt rate (4%) indicates such therapy is beneficial. A cotherapist is recommended, & the repeated exploration of possible suicidal preoccupation is stressed. Suicide threats made within the therapy situation are interpreted in terms of the patient’s need for interpersonal leverage within the group. The special risks involved in working with this type of group are noted.
