This article presents the case of an American woman in her mid-thirties who was treated psychodynamically for a series of psychological problems, including depression, suicidal impulses & anxiety arising from her denial of the Oedipal complex. The author asserts that peopleÕs suicidal impulses are expressions of internalized beliefs that their parents hate them, manifesting in a narcissistic injury. A description of this phenomenon is presented. (7 refs) (SC)
