Compared 105 male & 12 female patients, who had attempted suicide during basic training, & an equal number of matched controls, on personality, symptom & life-history data. Some results: male & female patient groups were somewhat lower on some indicators of poor premorbid adjustment but also dramatically different on a host of personality measures. 1/3 of male patients could be classified into a markedly schizoid type, with the remaining patients forming a relatively indistinct grouping.
