Amine Metabolites and Neuroendocrine Responses Related to Depression and Suicide

The article examines the possible correlations between some biological markers & suicide & depression. Suicidal patients especially those using violent methods, tended to have lower 5-HIAA, but not HVA, in their CSF. They also had non-suppression of cortisol after dexamethasone more often. They conclude suicide attempts, not depression, seem to be significantly correlated with CSF 5-HIAA. (MRE)
