In most instances the suicidal nature of stab wounds is readily apparent; however, some cases are equivocal from the initial examination of the body at the scene, e.g. wounds are in an atypical position, clothing is undisturbed, weapon lies some distance from the body. Careful examination of any clothing worn (presence of hesitation marks) & of the wound tracks (tendency for the knife to find the lines of least resistance) may confirm that the wounds were suicidal. 3 cases are presented.
