This study quotes Snyder who found that suicidal individuals first turn to family members for help, then to friends & finally to physicians. This undisputed helper role in suicide prevention, requires that the physician be able to recognize signs of impending suicide. This survey of 202 physicians shows psychiatrists with most perceptiveness followed closely by medical personnel in other specialties.(GW)
