This paper is a summary of the first stage of a study on suicide among youth in Israel. Presented is the epidemiological picture of all adolescent suicide reported to the authorities between 1963-1966. Some unexpected patterns of suicide in relation to ethnic groups & boy-girl differentials emerged. The second phase will include mainly case histories’ analysis to examine certain theories of suicide & to test some assumptions pertaining to the nature of suicide among youth in Israel.
