In 76% of the families seen in an outpatient child psychiatry emergency service, the event which precipitated the child’s suicide threat or attempt was an important loss or separation or the anniversary of such a loss, through death, illness, marital separation, hospitalization or household move of a parent or parent surrogate. Used the crisis episode to effect increased openness of family communication & therapeutic movement. The treatment plan & techniques are discussed. (17 ref)
