Suicides in New Jersey in 1970 & in Philadelphia in 1972 & attempted suicides at Philadelphia General Hospital in 1971 & 1972 were examined on 28 holidays. No difference in the suicide rate on holidays & on other days was found, although a tendency for attempted suicides on holidays may exist. However, when only major holidays were considered, no difference in the attempted suicide rate was noted.
