A study of the coroner’s records for the period 1959-69 revealed 61 suicides. Analysis showed that the suicide rate was higher in New Providence than in the Out Islands. The rate was much higher in the expatriate & visitor populations. 37% of all suicides had an alcoholism problem, 20% had serious physical illnesses & 13% had had previous psychiatric treatment.
