Determined whether recent life-event stress is associated with the etiology of self-destructive behaviours & ascertained the significance of biographical factors & social, psychological, psychiatric, & physical environment conditions present near the time of attempt. Findings emphasize the impact that stressful recent life experiences have on behaviour & health and imply that, in addition to psychosocial influences, considerable importance also must be assigned to perceived situational factors.
