Reviews studies on suicide in children. It is argued that a number of recorded fatal accidents involving children and adolescents are actually suicides. Precipitating environment factors and depression in presuicidal children are described. A case study of a 5-yr-old boy who committed suicide illustrates the problem in ‘intent’ in young children’s suicide.
