This study examined the childhood environment, mental & physical health of suicidal persons. Subjects (n=74) were chosen using the Cornell Medical Index and based on their affirmative answer to the CMI question, “do you often wish you were dead?”. Further investigation revealed long histories of childhood psychic & psychosomatic problems. It is concluded that the CMI is useful in identifying those with suicidal tendencies in a large population. (NBB)
