The existing networks of telephone services & physician-directed SOS Centres throughout Europe are examined with a view to their effectiveness in identifying suicidal risk & the prevention of suicide. The SOS services differ in that they offer therapeutic help; however, it is felt that even this service cannot meet the total need. These centres may serve a greater need by educating those who come into direct contact with troubled individuals about crisis intervention & suicide prevention. (NBB)
