This article analyzes 23 cases in which people suffer from pathological grief. In all cases, the patient had a love-hate relationship with the deceased. The author suggests a relatively predictable symptomatology in those suffering from pathological grief including: environmental & psychic changes; dissociative reactions; aggression & suicidal gestures. The author asserts that every pathological grief reaction does not end in a depressive state & most people experiencing pathological grief reactions can be successfully treated. (SC)
