This paper details a study of recent widows & widowers and whether they experienced weight loss and sleep disturbance during their period of bereavement. These 2 features were chosen because they can be symptoms of endogenous depression. Trends in sleep disturbance, weight loss and sedative & tranquilizer use are described between genders and over a period of 13 months. These symptoms were found to be prevalent in bereavement, and not necessarily indicative of endogenous depression.
