This paper discusses Japanese stress produced by family problems the “examination hell” in combination with the personality traits of competitiveness, dependency & disregard for reason. When stress interacts with a weak ego, restraint on aggression, a lack of social resources & acceptant views of death & suicide, the inclination towards suicide increases. The author conlcudes that suicide is still a hihgly institutionalized adjustment method in Japan.
