This article considers loss, abandonment & distortions of self image to be critical issues in the treatment of adolescent depression. Management of suicidal teenagers as well as the manipulative implications of suicide are discussed. Pharmacotherapy as adjunctive to an eclectic approach to treatment is examined. Treatment of low socioeconomic depressed adolescents is highlighted. A treatment team approach is favored for inpatient settings.(DD)
