This survey shows that: alcoholism is more common in attempted suicides than completed suicides, there are more men than women alcoholics in both suicides & attempters, suicide rates are lower in Black alcoholics than White, & risk of suicide drops in alcoholics after age 50. Although about 1/4 of all suicides drink immediately before death, little is known of the role of intoxification in suicide.
