Empirically Based Comprehensive Treatment Program for Parasuicide

The suicide literature was selectively reviewed in the areas of factors predictive of parasuicide and primary & secondary prevention of parasuicide. The research literature strongly suggests that secondary parasuicide prevention is the most viable path for future research to follow. A secondary prevention model, based on factors predictive of parasuicide, was developed. This model focuses on stress reduction and cognitive restructuring as the primary goals of treatment.(DD)
