Reports results of a 3-stage cluster analysis of data on 298 suicide attempters. Patients were allocated by the analysis to 7 identifiable profile types that correlated with 6 outcome variables. Profiles included data on social setting, seriousness of the attempt, judgements about overall functioning & interpersonal conflict & the input of the patients’ sig. others. The profiles have prognostic sig. as well as implications for treatment of attempters & education of emotionally involved others.
