Events and Conscious Ideation Leading to Suicidal Behavior in Adolescence

Reports information gained from 84 adolescents hospitalized for suicidal behaviour (threat or attempt). Events preceding suicidal behaviour included separation from parents, disclosure of forbidden activity, defiance of authority, restriction by parents & criticism. Conscious ideation included thoughts of punishment, separation from parents, criticism, ridicule, deprivation, being unloved or unwanted, being beaten, hurt, raped or killed, jealousy & bids for attention. 3 cases are described.
