The authors of this article assert that mescaline & LSD can facilitate a breakdown of personality integration that can outlast the drugged state. This state may allow individuals to take their own lives who otherwise might not. A case report is provided of a college student who committed suicide while on LSD. He had given no signs of suicidal tendencies, although he was experiencing anxiety & mental distress. He stayed in school, however, & discussed the future only a few days before his death.
