Records of an English hospital were examined to investigate the possibility of imitation in suicide. Amoung 24 suicides since 1886, 5 “pairs” (occurring within the same year) were discovered. Consideration of the possibility of contact, proximity in time & the method of suicide, led the reviewers to conclude that the second person in 3 of the pairs was to some extent influenced by the first person to commit suicide.
