This article describes the origin & the characteristics of the psychological autopsy. The author describes the 1st recorded psychological autopsy, involving a man who either fell or jumped from a bridge. The steps of a psychological autopsy are outlined. The author provides tips on how to contact the next of kin following the suicide & how to conduct a face-to-face interview & gather phone numbers of other contacts.
