New resource: Suicide bereavement support group guide
Today, Saturday, November 18, is International Day for People Impacted by Suicide Loss.
Suicide grief is unique: people who have lost someone to suicide experience grief that can be more complicated than the grief following other types of loss.
Participation in a suicide bereavement support group has been found to reduce depression, isolation, and symptoms of stress reactions, including PTSD, and enhance self-esteem, self-worth, connection and belonging.
This guide presents promising strategies and best practices for facilitating safe and effective suicide bereavement support groups. It is intended for organizations and/or group facilitators who are currently operating or interested in starting a group.
This is a joint initiative of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention and Centre for Suicide Prevention.
