Last night CSP was happy to be a part of the Men’s Mental Health Panel hosted by CMHA Calgary at Fresh Start Recovery. Librarian and Writer Robert Olson spoke on behalf of the organization and highlighted many of the facts surrounding the suicide rates of men and the reasons that they are the group at the highest risk for suicide.
“For every female suicide there are 3 male suicides” – Robert Olson, CSP
There was a good turn out considering it was also the night of the election and the hockey game; it was encouraging to see so many who are concerned about mental health in men and boys!
Thank you to everyone who participated and to the other panelists (pictured: seated from left): Dr. Michael Trew, Chief Addictions and Mental Health Officer, Alberta Government;
Gavin Carscallen, Director, Canadian Centre for Male Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse;
Linda from the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre; and Robert Olson, Librarian and Writer for Centre for Suicide Prevention. And thank you to Stacey Petersen, Executive Director of Fresh Start Recovery for facilitating (pictured: far left)!
