An adolescent psychiatric disorder is described & defined asthe bi-polar affective disorder (B-Pad). An illustrative case history of 2 B-Pad adolescents is presented to describe this syndrome. The treatment process used that has proven soundly-based & effective includes individual, family, & group therapy. Lithium & major tranquilizers in antipsychotic dosage should be avoided, states the author, since approximately 80% of B-Pad subjects learn to manage their lives well without these drugs.
