A summary of a study investigating the relationship between affect state & suicide. Anger, depression & violence were studied in a sample of 1525 case reports of offenders referred to a psychiatric clinic & 410 case reports of defendants seen at the same clinic for an assessment of pretrial competency. Study found no consistent evidence to support the existence of an association between a history of suicide attempts & the violence of the offense. (NBB)
