This study supports earlier findings that suicide & attempted suicide are both much rarer among the African population than among the white population in Rhodesia. The usual method of suicide by the African is hanging; in the European it is shooting, poisoning or drug overdose. More suicides occurred among rural Africans than townsmen. Attempted suicide, however, was not significantly different among both urban & rural Shona & as among Europeans was more frequent among young females. (NBB)
