This report examines police suicide by starting with a discussion of 8 myths about suicide & a portrait of a suicidal person. 4 previous studies & articles are reviewed to reveal psychological & sociological theories, causes & warning signs of police suicide. Suicides among 27 Quebec officers are examined to determine the circumstances surrounding the suicide, the causes & the warning signs. The article concludes with suggestions for preventing police suicides. (7 refs.) (RM)
