The author discusses Faber’s paper (1967) about suicide in terms of the elated suicidal process. Ajax’s suicide, in part, involves an elated triumph over individuals whom he believes had humiliated or betrayed him & whom he then betrays in turn. Tarbox then compares Sophocles’ drama “Ajax” with Ibsen’s drama “The Master Builder”. A parallel is drawn between the 2 plays in the way in which both heroes change their attitude toward the people who are somehow connected with their suicides. (8 refs)
