Abstract
A Textbook of Medicine in General Practice: The Suicide Problem in General Practice
Stengel E
Emphasises the seriousness of suicide, its function as a cry for help, & the need for doctors to take suicide attempts seriously. General practitioners need to be aware of common myths about suicide; know the ambivalence of most suicides; & know the role in suicide of factors such as abnormal personality, social isolation, & alcoholism. Practitioners should be informed of previous attempts by their clients, & be alert to signs of depression. 5 misconceptions about suicide are examined. (RM)
