Obtained data on all 235 suicides committed in Philadelphia in 1972 to discover additional correlates of choice of method. Subjects were grouped according to method & compared on 25 variables. Choice of method was differentially related to age, sex, ethnicity, marital & employment status. Suicides who had used drugs had been psychiatrically hospitalized more often & had made more previous attempts & threats. Findings point to areas (psychiatric vs demographic) that may be worthy of further study.
