“In a period of 2 yr., 274 patients (180 females and 94 males) who had attempted suicide were admitted to a general hospital which serves a mainly urban population.” Psychiatric examination revealed that adolescent crises in teenage girls and unsatisfactory marital relations in older women raised the number of females. Alcohol was significant in 32% in this series, more than in other studies.
