Highlights
- •Temporal variation is evident in suicide in England with higher risk in the early part of the year.
- •Suicide risk was significantly lower during the Christmas period.
- •A peak in suicide was found on New Year’s Day and Mondays in the general population.
- •Suicide risk was higher on Mondays in patients aged over 50 or those living alone.
- •Services should consider added support for vulnerable people during particular time periods.
