The End of Jim Morrison: A Schizoid Suicide – A Phenomenological Study in Object-Relations

Reviewing the circumstances surrounding pop singer Jim Morrison’s death, the authors believe that his death was a compelling instance of the schizoid-type suicide described by Harry Guntrip. The schizoid problem – the persistence of a weak infantile ego characterized by anxiety & fear & caused by inadequate mothering – lay deeper in the strata of the unconscious mind than the oedipal conflict. Lack of control of his schizoid ego weakness was evinced in Morrison’s lyrics & actions. (KM)
