Socio-Economic Differences in Suicide Risk Vary by sex: a Population-Based Case-Control Study of 18-65 Year Olds in Denmark
Andres A R~~Collings S~~Qin P
This study investigated variations in the risk of suicide by socioeconomic status for men & women. Data on 15,648 suicide deaths among 18-65-year-old Danish men & women during the period 1981-1997 were linked to data on socioeconomic status indicators using a nested case control design. Cox’s proportional hazard regression models were fitted separately for men & women. Results showed suicide in both genders was strongly associated with a range of commonly measured indicators of socioeconomic status & that the association varies by gender even after adjusting for these measures simultaneously & controlling for the effect of health status.
